Banks to limit services Monday

The Jakarta Post | Sun, 05/15/2011INDONESIA: Indonesian banks will serve limited transactions on the collective leave day of Monday, while the bourse will remain open for stock trading, both institutions announce. Banking activities will return to normal on Wednesday.

“BI will be closed but still serve limited banking operational activities. BI will still serve clearing, RTGS [real time gross settlement] and cash transactions on Monday,” Bank Indonesia (BI) spokesman Difi Johansyah told The Jakarta Post in a text message.

“Stock market transaction settlement relies on banks, so we could not operate if the banks are closed. We will wait for BI’s official announcement. Up until now, our plan is to open as officially announced on our website,” IDX president director Ito Warsito told the Post via telephone.

The government on Friday declared a collective leave for Monday ahead of the public holiday of Buddhist annual commemoration of Waisak on Tuesday. — JP
