Wishnu Wardhana, APEC CEO Summit 2013 Chair

 Dear Leaders,

Salam sejahtera from Indonesia.
On behalf of the Indonesian business community, I respectfully invite you to attend the APEC CEO Summit 2013 on 5-7 October in Bali, one of the world’s most beautiful islands. Indonesia is delighted to be hosting APEC once again, at a time when the global economy is at a pivotal juncture, almost 20 years on from the Bogor Goals when the leaders of Asia-Pacific first envisioned free and open trade and investment.

The aim of the Summit is to create a unique platform to discuss the future of the Asia-Pacific and to contribute to achieving sustainable inclusive growth globally. As a key stakeholder in our future, I invite you to join us to work together towards a more resilient world and to build bridges to growth to create more opportunities for trade and investment for the benefit of the people in our economies.

The Summit program will be exceptional and will include the Presidents and Prime Ministers of the Asia-Pacific – some of whom are new, CEOs of global corporations, as well as thought leaders in a dynamic interactive format. Through the discussions on stage, and through the high quality networking, we want to ensure that you will gain the latest insight and perspectives on the issues that matter most to your business and the region.

I am confident that with your support, we can reshape our future to make our economies more resilient and fully open for business. At the same time, there is no better chance to discover emerging Indonesia – projected to be the 7th largest economy in the world in the next 20 years – while enjoying the beauty and serenity of Bali.

I look forward to welcoming you to the Summit. Selamat datang to Indonesia.

Yours sincerely, Wishnu Wardhana

Asia-Pacific Business Leaders To Urge APEC Economies to Adapt to New Business Realities in Promoting Regional Economic Integration

Issued by the APEC Business Advisory Council
Amidst continuing uncertainty in the global economy, business leaders of the Asia-Pacific region urge APEC economies to stay the course in deepening regional economic integration as the means to promote resilience and sustained economic growth and recovery in the region even while adapting to new business realities.

This was the focus of the 3rd meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) held in Kyoto where businesspeople prepared their recommendations for APEC Leaders to address current regional economic concerns.

“Regional economic integration provides the means to deliver APEC’s hopes for economic recovery and sustained growth, job creation and financial stability”, said Wishnu Wardhana, ABAC Chair for 2013. “APEC should pursue an ambitious agenda that encompasses more open trade and investment, not only in goods but in services as well, enhanced connectivity including hard and soft infrastructure, and deeper and integrated financial markets.”

To better achieve these goals, Wardhana said that APEC economies should take into account the evolving ways that governments and businesses operate. Global value networks and supply chains are the predominant business models in which APEC economies lead the world.

“Direct government involvement in the markets has been gradually decreasing while at the same time, the outsourcing of traditional public services including the provision of hard and soft infrastructure has been increasing exponentially,” he explained. “These circumstances have led us to recommend that specific actions be taken to support this development, which has created greater efficiency, generated jobs and helped promote inclusivity all across the region.”

ABAC’s recommendations in this regard include substantive and consistent progress in the various pathways leading to the establishment of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP); the initiation of a new services agenda in recognition of its being a key component of the value chain and which can determine an economy’s competitiveness as a result; and a multi-disciplinary and systematic approach to connectivity that includes the adoption of global data standards and a comprehensive system to infrastructure development in which attracting foreign direct investments is a key element.

“Inclusivity and sustainability are also critical elements to building resilience,” Wardhana continued. “We urge APEC economies to take actions to grow and strengthen small, medium and micro-enterprises and to enhance the participation of women in the economy as part of their inclusivity agenda.

Another development which ABAC believes APEC economies should recognize is the growing synergy between the government and business sector in the planning and delivery of economic benefits to the public. ABAC has been pushing for policy partnerships through dialogues and joint meetings. The public-private policy partnerships on food security promises a way forward to the long-delayed addressing of this critical issue at a comprehensive level. The Asia-Pacific Financial Forum (APFF) which will provide a regional platform for public-private sector collaboration to help accelerate the development of integrated financial markets will shortly be launched. Meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific Infrastructure Partnership (APIP) has held dialogues with six economies with the object of improving the environment for Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in infrastructure financing and development.

Recognizing the need to enhance collaboration with Latin-American Region, ABAC agreed to grant observer status to Colombia at its Regional Economic Integration Working Group (REIWG) meetings.

“We look forward to our meeting with APEC Leaders in Bali to share our views and seek theirs on how to move forward the regional economic integration agenda,” Wardhana concluded.

Indonesia in APEC

In 1994, Indonesia became the birthplace of the APEC Bogor Goals: liberalized trade and investment by 2010 for industrialized economies and by 2020 for the developing economies. Almost 20 years after, Indonesia has taken significant part in contributing to the development, maintaining the commitment towards the cause.
This year's APEC CEO Summit's theme of "Towards Resilience and Growth: Reshaping Priorities for Global Economy" could not have been more apt as Indonesia again is honored to play host to APEC.
Indonesia bounced back from the 1998 economic crisis to currently become the 16th largest economy and is an emerging and growth-leading economy (EAGLE), with a projected growth to become the 7th largest in 20 years' time.

The Host Economy , Indonesia
Indonesia at a glance
 Situated between the Indian and Pacific Ocean, Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world. Its surface area of 1,905 thousand square kilometers is comprised of more than 17,000 islands, lending Indonesia the nickname of "The Emerald of the Equator".

Indonesia has 34 provinces, with Jakarta as its capital city.

Indonesia's geographic location has blessed it with a rich landscape, from fertile rice lands in Java and Bali to the luxuriant rainforests of Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi, to the savannah grasslands of the Nusa Tenggara islands to snow-capped peaks of West Papua. Indonesia is home to more than 28,000 flora species from tiny rare orchid to giant Raflesia flower. It is also one of the most diverse variants of fauna species, including the endangered orangutans of Sumatera and Borneo, the unique giant lizard of Komodo, the horned Java Rhinoceros and Sumatera tigers.

Currently a dynamic USD 1.1 trillion economy, Indonesia reached an economic growth of 6.5% in 2011—the highest in 15 years. Its Foreign Direct Investment was USD 19.5 billion that same year. Approximately 60% of Indonesia's GDP comes from domestic consumption, cushioning Indonesia from global economic uncertainty. Meanwhile, investment growth has reached 20.53% in 2011.

Opening its doors for trade and investment even wider, Indonesia's regions are grouped into six economic corridors where each is specialized in areas where it has competitive advantages—from natural resources, industrialization and services, mining and energy reserves, agriculture fisheries, plantations, oil and gas, to tourism.

Bali 's Over Water Toll Road, Jalan Bali Mandara,  is ready for APEC SUMMIT 2013  in October and Miss World 2013 in September

Bali 's 12.7 km over water toll road recently built over the sea, which connects the tourist
area Nusa Dua, Benoa and Ngurah Rai Airport, is nearing completion,
and can be used immediately before the APEC 2013 Summit in progress.
The toll road is the first and one-on-one built over the water. APEC 2013
Summit will take place from October 1 to October 8 2013.

The First Bali Toll road Project is officially inaugurated on September23rd. 2013
PT Jasamarga Bali Toll was founded on the 22nd. of  August 2011 by Jasa Marga and seven (State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to build and operate the Nusa Dua-Ngurah Rai-Benoa Toll,  connecting airport, port, and tourism areas in Nusa Dua, Bali.  The toll road project is one of the priority programs of Central Government in 6 Economic Corridors. In addition to improving Balinese economy development, the toll road is needed to support APEC event, which will be held by Indonesia in October 2013; the toll road will be ready for operation by Quarter 2 2013.

Ir. A Tito Karim, President director of PT Jasa Marga Bali Tol, said that the company was ready to incorporate the administration in the investment. He confirmed that the project would be completed by 2013 before the APEC Summit in October 2013. Part of the toll road was built on 1.5 hectares of mangrove forest, following approval by the Forestry Ministry.

Bali toll road , which is estimated to cost Rp. 2.4 trillion , was originally planned to be constructed  on land on the
island of Bali. Since it was getting a lot of resistance from residents of
Bali and also against the customs and culture of Bali , which
may interrupt the silence of religious activities in Bali. For all
religious activities in Bali are not allowed through under any objects
that are not sacred to the Balinese. Being  appreciative and respectful of
the local wisdom in Bali, the Bali government came up with the bright idea, which was ,to build
a toll road over the sea.
The project that should be undertaken in 18 months could be finalized in 14 months. In Indonesia, JDP is the longest over-water road built by local workers.
, faster than the original plan. This all proves
that the people of Indonesia have adequate capabilities and
technologies for the construction of roads and bridges over the sea.

Bali's Governor stated that he had sent two options of JDP name to the President, Jalan Soekarno-hatta and Jalan Bali Mandara.
According to the former Chief of Bali Police, Jalan Soekarno Hatta is given to commemorate the service of those two Indonesian Independence  proclaimers as the nation has stood up until now because of their effort.
While the name Jalan Bali Mandara, he said, besides it’s the President’s idea, it also has a special meaning to Bali. “Bali Mandara sticks to Balinese name, all people in the world will know Bali and it exists in Bali. Mandara means great, huge and holy,” he said.

The ceremonies were led by 3 Hindu priests: Ida Pedanda Siwa, Ida
Pedanda Budha and Ida Rsi Bujangga.on July 10th. 2013

Leading the rituals was Ida Pedanda Gede Putra Bajing offering prayers
that seeks to maintain balance between opposing forces in the cosmos
and seek the Almighty’s blessing  upon the people of Bali.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to formally inaugurate the
roadway before the road is formally opened to the public on August 14,2013

The official inauguration of over-water toll road (JDP), connecting Benoa-Ngurah Rai Airport Nusa Dua is suggested to be conducted on the same date as the 55th anniversary of Bali Provincial government on August 14, 2013. Dahlan Iskan, the State Minister of State Owned Enterprises ,also, proposed  the inauguration date to be on August 14 2013 . In the meantime  P.T Jasa Marga Bali has appropriated a budget of Rp 4 billion (USD 400,000) for this inauguration purpose . According to Mangku Pastika, the Bali Governor , it seems that the inauguration date might be delayed until further notice as President Yudhoyono would still have lots of State functions to attend to .

Eventually the over-water toll road (JDP), connecting Benoa-Ngurah Rai Airport Nusa Dua  was officially inaugurated by President Yudhoyono on September 23rd. 2013 and thereby declared open for public

Miss World 2013 of Philippines , Megan Young

Heartiest Congratulations to Miss Philippines , Megan Young on being the Miss World 2013

The US born 23 year old Megan  Lynne Young accepted the Miss World title  and got crowned by 2012 winner Wenxia Yu after being declared as  the winner of this year's contest.

Miss World 2013 Beauty with a purpose Philippines

"Amazing scenes in Bali, Megan is overcome with emotions as a tear rolls down her cheek, promising to 'Be the best Miss World Ever'!" the Miss World official Twitter account said.
She also waved to the crowd at the start of "Miss World Philippines' Year," it added.
Miss France Marine Lorphelin was second while Miss Ghana Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter was third.
Ms Young had to answer the question, "Why should you be Miss World?" with: "I treasure a core value of humanity and that guides people why they act the way they do."
"I will use this to show other people how they can understand each other.... as one, we can help society," she added.
On its Twitter account, Miss World cited  Megan Young joined the contestants from France, Ghana, Brazil, and Spain.
The three entered the final round along with Brazil's Sancler Frantz Konzen; Spain's Elena Ibarbia Jimenez; and Gibraltar's Maroua Kharbouch.
Miss Gibraltar joined the five finalists after she was the People's Choice.
Earlier, Young led the list of 10 semifinalists, who included Brazil, Australia, France, Nepal, England, Indonesia, Spain, Jamaica, and Ghana.
Hours before the contest, Young had indicated she was excited hours before the coronation night began.
"My heart is beating faster and faster ♥," she said on her Twitter account –
In line with tradition, Mrgan Young will head straight to London where she will reside during her reign.

Pageant organizers replaced contestants' bikinis with sarongs to appease "a small but vocal group," the Associated Press explains.
This is different from Miss Universe, a global pageant that's part of the Donald Trump empire. It's not affiliated with the Miss America pageant system, either. Miss World contestants compete in a variety of challenges in the days leading up the pageant's finale.
A major difference between the Miss World pageant and others is at Miss World, you don't see the extensive preliminary competitions you might see in other pageant systems. For example, Olivia Jordan was appointed "Miss World United States 2013 by the Elite Models company, the license holder of Miss World Organization in the United States," according to Beauty Pageant News.
Previously, Olivia Jordan  was first runner-up in the Miss California USA 2013 pageant. Even though she didn't win Miss World, she's slated to star in "Hot Tub Time Machine 2." So that's exciting.
Here are some other highlights from Saturday's pageant.
FINAL RESULTS:
Here are the winners:
3rd place: Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter (Ghana)
2nd place: Marine Lorpheline (France)
1st place: Megan Young (Philippines)

Miss World Top 6: Miss France, Miss Philippines, Miss Ghana, Miss Brazil, Miss Spain and Miss Gibraltar (automatically advanced as People's Choice winner).
Some fun facts about our top 6...we see a pretaped segment and then the contestants briefly tell the judges why they deserve to be Miss World.
Miss France is studying medicine and wants to be a pediatrician. She says, "I appreciate the fact that Miss World travels a lot and meets people around the world and tries to help them."
Miss Philippines wants to show the world that people from her country are hard workers. She's been caring for her brother and sister on her own since her mom moved to the US. She says she wants to show people the core values of humanity "so that as one, together, we shall help society."
Miss Ghana, a medical student, really wants to help people. She says Miss World should be someone who "truly embodies beauty with a purpose." She wants to embrace the title "and to make an impact on the lives of the less-privileged."
Miss Brazil tells us her family couldn't attend the Miss World finale because they don't have the financial resources. Through a interpreter, she says she sees Miss World "as a reflection of the values that the world should have."
Miss Spain tells us her country has never won a Miss World competition. She says, "I will give to those people who really need help, all my energy and all my passion."
Miss Gibraltar works as a as a client relationship manager. She lists her parents as her biggest influence. They taught her to be kind and humble. Presenting Miss World 2013 Indonesia Vania Larissa,  Beauty with a purpose
During my initial charity work, I was touched to see these children .
For them the color of the world is just in their dreams.
Some of them were even born blind and abandoned by their family because they weren’t able to cope with their children’s disabilities.
After seeing these children, I was determined to help them as much as I could.
Alongside with volunteers from the Elasafan Foundation for the blind in Jakarta , we taught these children the basics in life so they can be more independent.

I ‘m amazed to see their spirits, they erave never complained even though they have to face many obstacles.  Despite their all ups and downs, they still can laugh and enjoy themselves

I believe with a proper education, these children will have a better chance to lead a normal life. It would be a great victory for them to live beyond horizon    make the impossible in to a reality
What excites me the most, after watching them learn is their talent for music
This motivates me to teach them new vocal   techniques and show them how to perform In front of live audiences.
It wasn’t easy for them, but their passion for music allowed them to eliminate many obstacles they faced.
I ‘m happy I can give these children the opportunity to perform in front of the audiences
They need to be acknowledged   and rewarded for their achievements so it can motivate them to achieve greater lengths in life.
For me, beauty with a purpose is by giving a positive impact to the people around us
If these children couldn’t see the colors and beauty of the world,   then I am honored to show them with my passion and determination the light that would lead them to a better future
Who knows one day one of these children can be the next Stevie Wonder or Jeff Healy
I hope these remarkable children have enlightened you as much they have inspired me
Life is a challenge, we strive, we struggle
We strive for a better future
Life is life
Fight for it .

Some of the most famous blind singers are Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Jeff Healy,Ronnie Milsap, and Andrea Bocelli

"You Raise Me Up"
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

You raise me up... To more than I can be.

Bali Hotel Association (BHA) joins International Coastal Cleanup

 Bali Hotel Association (BHA)  joins International Coastal Cleanup
Press Release

Bali, Saturday 21 September 2013 - Hoteliers in Bali in conjunction with Anantara Seminyak Resort & Spa, Bali proudly instigated the International Coastal Cleanup campaign by clearing debris along Seminyak Beach. BHA members have always been  encouraged to participate and be part of the solution to help protect this popular coastal strip.

Cleanups alone can’t solve this pollution problem. Nevertheless, the Ocean Trash Index provides a snapshot of what's polluting our oceans so we can work to prevent specific items from reaching the water in the first place.

BHA members together with Anantara Seminyak Resort & Spa, Bali, Rotary Club Seminyak, media representatives and a numbers of local schools gathered at 7am to clean the beach for one hour. The "Green Army" covered a distance of 2 kilometers picking up all kinds of rubbish along the way. Plastic bags, containers, cutlery, cans, cigarettes and household waste as well as abandoned shoes and fishing debris were just some of the 7,565 items collected. The total trash haul ended up weighing in at over 142,6 kilograms.

"Bali Hotel Association is extremely proud to take part in this eco-friendly initiative. It is directly in line with our objective, which is to continuously strive to find ways to support programs that protect the environment," commented Alessandro Migliore, Chairman of the Bali Hotels Association.

We hope that our actions will encourage locals and tourists alike to take note and assume responsibility for the daily consumption of one-time products that effectively contribute to the ocean trash problem. We would very much like to start a ripple effect that gets everyone thinking about this issue,” continues Alessandro.

The International Coastal Cleaning campaign involved members of BHA; Anantara Seminyak Bali Resort & Spa, Anantara Vacation Club Seminyak Bali, The Oberoi Bali, The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali, The Breezes Bali Resort & Spa, Harris Resort Kuta Beach – Bali,  SDN 1Seminyak,  SDN 2 Seminyak, and Rotary Club Seminyak.

Some of the members like Grand Nikko Bali, Mercure Bali Nusa Dua, Maya Ubud Resort & Spa as well as  Aerowisata SANUR BEACH HOTEL – Bali also participate by cleaning up beaches in different locations.
