Create your Future Unlimited with your Study in Australia

Let's study in Australia
Create our own future unlimited with our study in Australia

Australian education goes mobile with its new official website
Indonesian students can research and plan their Australian education via mobile phone and tablet on the new Study in Australia website, Study in Australia , the official source of information on studying in Australia.

A mobile-friendly design makes it easy for students to browse courses and institutions on any handheld or desktop device, wherever they may be in the world.
Potential students can also interact via social media, access information about scholarships and read or watch the stories of other students from Singapore or elsewhere.
The new site updates and improves the previous Study in Australia website, featuring an enhanced search function and a log-in that allows users to bookmark information and favorites.
It also includes detailed information about Australia’s states and territories and updated content including news and event feeds, all in a selection of languages.

Australia’s Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty said the Study in Australia site was a reliable, comprehensive source of up-to-date information, with links to other education providers as well as details about living in Australia.

“An Australian education opens huge opportunities for graduates, enriching their personal and professional lives,” Mr Moriarty said.

“Australia has a fantastic range of internationally recognized institutions offering high quality courses across the education spectrum.

“Now Indonesian students can learn about them quickly and easily in a format that suits their lifestyle,” he said

The new site, produced and maintained by Austrade, the Australian Government’s trade, investment and education promotion agency, goes live this month.

In the coming months, additional functions will be added, including a personalized study guide.

The site is a practical, friendly and engaging resource for existing and prospective students, based on testing and research.

It is also designed to more effectively refer students to the websites of relevant institutions.

The Ambassador said Australia has had a long history of welcoming international students from all parts of the world.

“Indonesian students have plenty of choices: they can study at university, learn English, attend a Vocational Education and Training (VET) college or go to school,“ Mr Moriarty said.

“All the information you need to begin creating your own Future Unlimited is available on www.studyinaustralia.gov.au,” he said.

In December 2012 there were 17,514 Indonesian students enrolled in Australian educational institutions, according to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and trade.

In June 2011, the Australian Government announced a new brand – Future Unlimited – for promoting Australian education internationally.
The new brand recognizes the decision to invest in an international education is ultimately driven by the desire for a better future. The perceived return on investment in education – future income, life satisfaction, choice – is what matters most.
Future Unlimited repositions Australian education. It moves the conversation beyond lifestyle and affordability, and focuses on the outcomes of an Australian education. The new positioning highlights the global relevance, practicality and quality of our institutions, along with their innovation, creativity and focus on the future.
Future Unlimited reassures students, and their parents, that their investment in an Australian education will be returned in the form of better career and life opportunities; it implies global career options; and reflects the idea of pathways and internationally recognized qualifications and skills.
Future Unlimited promotes Australian education, whether delivered onshore or offshore, among prospective international students or other purchasers of education and training services.
Ultimately, the new brand says that an Australian education delivers a future unlimited.

10 reasons to study in Australia

Did you know Australia has the third highest number of international students in the world behind only the United Kingdom and the United States despite having a population of only 23 million? This isn’t surprising when you consider Australia has seven of the top 100 universities in the world! In fact, with over 22,000 courses across 1,100 institutions, Australia sits above the likes of Germany, the Netherlands and Japan, ranking eighth in the Universitas 2012 U21 Ranking of National Higher Education Systems.
These are strong academic credentials, but our institutions are just as highly rated as the cities that house them around the country. Australia has five of the 30 best cities in the world for students based on student mix, affordability, quality of life, and employer activity – all important elements for students when choosing the best study destination. And with more than A$200 million provided by the Australian Government each year in international scholarships, we’re making it easier for you to come and experience the difference an Australian education can make to your future career opportunities.

Do you have a specific study area of interest? There is every chance Australia has you covered, with at least one Australian university in the top 50 worldwide across the study areas of Natural Sciences & Mathematics, Life & Agricultural Sciences, Clinical Medicine & Pharmacy, and Physics.
Given this impressive education pedigree, it’s not surprising there are now more than 2.5 million former international students who have gone on to make a difference after studying in Australia. Some of these students are among the world’s finest minds. In fact, Australia has produced 15 Nobel prize laureates and every day over 1 billion people around the world rely on Australian discoveries and innovations – including penicillin, IVF, ultrasound, Wi-Fi, the Bionic Ear, cervical cancer vaccine and Black Box Flight Recorders – to make their lives, and the lives of others, better.
Why wouldn’t you want to study with some of the best minds in the world?

Transcript

>>Kym Hewitt: Most commentators believe that there is a significant gap between Australia’s positioning in the Indonesian market at present and the potential. So, at the moment Indonesia, the value of the market to Australia is about 6.6 billion dollars, it’s our 11th major export market, and for many that’s surprising given the scale of the market and its proximity to Australia. Certainly one of our priorities is to try to narrow that gap. By drawing the opportunities that increasingly the market offers in consumer and other spaces to Australian exporters and business.
In areas like consumer durables for example, Australia doesn’t have strength right across the supply chain, but we have pockets of deep expertise in various niches across that chain. And that’s a big opportunity for Australia in Indonesia.
The most significant trend in Indonesia at the moment is the dominance of the consumption sector as a driver of economic growth. So, consumption accounts for 60% of the economy, over 60% of growth and it reflects the passing through of this bulge of young, increasingly wealthy, young Indonesians.
The major opportunity for Australia in Indonesia is to connect to this sweet spot that I’ve just described, the consumption space. At the moment we tend to belong in things like food, mining equipment, technology and services, and they’re in a more difficult space that is exposed to government policy. The consumption space is where the real growth is happening, and that’s where the real opportunity is to connect regional value chains.
Indonesia is a country where the badge of government really counts for something. So it does open doors and provide vastly improved access to business and to government. So the service we provide of cultivating local networks, identifying opportunities, and then organizing visit and introductory programs for Australian business people really do contain a lot of value in the market setting.

Comparison of fuel prices worldwide June 2013

Fuel prices around the world, June 2013

Think your gas is expensive ?

Here you can find information about fuel prices around the world. We present unleaded gas and diesel prices by country.

Fuel prices differ considerably across countries. The prices of fuel in some of the petrol producing states are less than a few dollar/euro cents for the liter. In contrast, in some European countries, a liter of gas cost more than 2 dollars. Prices also change over time. However, price movements are similar across countries. They either increase or decrease everywhere.

The data are drawn from a variety of sources including official government materials, oil companies, online resources specializing in gas prices, and others.

In Indonesia
Fuel price hike by the end of June 2013
Eventually the Government  through Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik officially announced that the new fuel prices would take effect on Saturday.
“The new price for Premium fuel is Rp 6,500 (65 US cents) per liter, up from Rp 4,500,(45 cents)  and diesel fuel will cost Rp 5,500 per liter, also up from Rp 4,500 per liter,” Jero Wacik said in a press statement aired by Metro TV on Friday night.
The announcement came four days after the House of Representatives passed the draft bill of the 2013 revised state budget into law in a plenary session in Jakarta on Monday, in which the government had stated its fuel-price increase proposal.
Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa, who attended the press conference, said the plan to raise fuel prices was meant to save the country’s economy.
Following the new policy, as much as Rp 9.3 trillion will be allocated for temporary direct cash assistance (BLSM), which will entail payments of Rp 150,000 per month being distributed to 15.5 million low-income households in Indonesia for four months
The government of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is mulling over raising gasoline prices 44 percent, from 4,500 rupiah, or 45 cents, a liter, or 0.26 gallon, to 6,500 rupiah to help close a widening budget deficit. The country’s Finance Ministry has said spending on fuel subsidies could reach $23 billion in 2013, compared with about $20 billion last year, if urgent action is not taken.
The House of Representatives just approved the government's proposed fuel-price hike as it endorsed the draft bill of the 2013 revised state budget in a plenary session in Jakarta on Monday. June 17th. 2013.that will pave the way for the government to announce the first price hike since 2008.
Under the revised state budget, the price of fuel will increase by 44 percent to Rp 6,500 (66 US cents) per liter.

In the meantime the Vice President Boediono said he was sure that the temporary direct cash assistance or locally called BLSM would not be able to influence the political choices of people who benefited from the assistance.
“So, for those who still worry about the assistance, they may need to think again about that Rp 150,000 (US$15.2) monthly cash aid for four months; it actually means nothing for our constituents,”
He further said the government would make sure that the social protection policy will run well and go to only the targeted beneficiaries. Another source from the finance ministry  said it might be conducted  by the end of this month.
Boediono said the BLSM policy was necessary because the government would increase the subsidized fuel price. Such an increase might lead to a rise in the price of basic commodities that would further lead to economic hardship among the poor .
During the session, 338 legislators voted in favor of the bill, while 181 lawmakers rejected it.
Fuel prices have long been a flashpoint issue in Indonesia, with economists arguing that huge government subsidies are damaging Southeast Asia's top economy.

International lenders like the World Bank have urged the Indonesian government to eliminate subsidies altogether, as savings could go to crucial social programs, including health care, as well as much-needed infrastructure investment.

Although Indonesia has plenty of oil production fields and is among the top 25 oil-producing nations in the world, it is a net importer of petroleum. Gasoline is so heavily subsidized that at the end of 2012, the country had the lowest fuel prices of any net oil-consuming nation in the world, according to the World Bank. The second-lowest was the United States, where a gallon sold for $3.29 on Dec. 31 — nearly twice as much as in Indonesia.

Economists and business leaders have urged the government to treat the decision to reduce fuel subsidies only as a first step in a pricing reform project, saying the job is not done until subsidies are phased out entirely.
Suryo Bambang Sulisto, chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), said on Tuesday that the fuel price increase is long overdue, urging the government to swiftly announce the timing for the price increase. “The waiting makes people anxious,” he said.
Government officials said they would announce the timing of the fuel price increase by Friday, after the House of Representatives on Monday approved the 2013 revised budget. The budget contains social spending to reduce the impact of the fuel price increase on 15 million poor households.
The subsidized gasoline price will rise to Rp 6,500 a liter and subsidized diesel to Rp 5,500 a liter. Both are sold at Rp 4,500 (45 cents) a liter currently, less than half their market price.
Suryo maintained his previous view that the government should entirely phase out fuel subsidies as soon as possible. “The money for subsidies is better used for improving infrastructure,” he said.
“Fuel subsidy is like a cancer; the longer we wait to treat it the sicker we become. The treatment will be painful but it will make us stronger and healthier,” Suryo said.
David Sumual, chief economist at Bank Central Asia, agreed with the need to phase out the subsidy completely. “I think Indonesians can do it. Many countries with lower income per capita than Indonesia’s have done it,” he said.
But he doubted that the government would remove the subsidy completely anytime soon, saying politics played a big role in decision making.
He said the government should revise its subsidy scheme by introducing a maximum level of spending every year.
“Let’s say the subsidy is set at Rp 100 trillion, then after the spending has surpassed that level, the price of subsidized fuel will be adjusted,” he proposed.
Dian Ayu Yustina, an economist at Bank Danamon, said: “I think Indonesians still need a fuel subsidy, but over the long-term it needs to be phased out.”
Dian and David said a decision in 2009 to cut the price of subsidized fuel to the current level ahead of a general election was politically motivated and warned future administrations not to take similar measures because it could send negative signals to investors.
Kadin’s Suryo said the government must avoid any temptation to reduce the fuel price. “With the current crude price, it’s only logical for the future government to raise it further,” he said.

Comparison of Fuel Prices worldwide

The price of gasoline in Indonesia is 0.73 EUR per liter which is 35% lower than the average world price of gasoline: 1.12 EUR. The price of diesel in Indonesia is 0.83 EUR per liter which is 18% lower than the average world price.

Gas prices around the globe
Gasoline prices by country  2013
This ranking sorts 60 countries by price, earnings, needed to buy a gallon and annual income spent on fuel.

While Americans and Europeans  bemoan the cost of gasoline at the pumps, people in some other parts of the world enjoy filling up their tanks cheaply thanks to subsidies provided by wealthy, oil-rich governments. But fuel subsidies tend to benefit the rich (who own motor vehicles) more than the poor. In Indonesia ,the government has spent hundreds of trillion rupiahs since early 1980's  for fuel subsidies in which reportedly 80 percent of it is to support  and benefit the upper middle income group and the rich for their 4 wheel vehicles, in the meantime the IMF estimated that 65 percent of the fuel subsidies in Africa benefit the richest 40 percent of households (2010). Only 8 percent of the $410 billion in government fuel subsidies worldwide went to the poorest 20 percent of the population (International Energy Agency - estimates, 2010).
The British insurance firm Staveley Head has released the latest list of the world’s gas pump prices.

1. Venezuela- $0.18 per gallon ($0.05 per liter)

US liquid measure for one gallon = 3.79 liters

British  gallon =  4.55 liters

With elections looming in October 2012, President Hugo Chávez knows that raising gasoline and diesel prices would be a risky move politically.  His presidency is already threatened by his deteriorating health, providing a unique opportunity for the opposition’s candidate, the telegenic Henrique Capriles Radonski, to replace the ailing leader.  The last time the government attempted to raise gasoline prices in 1989,l riots ensued, and hundreds of people died. Venezuelans are likely to continue paying less for fuel than bottled water for years to come.

Let's come to Bali Arts Festival 2013

The 35th. Bali Arts Festival 2013 themed "Taksu: Brings about Creative Power and Identity " is around the corner, and it will be open to public from June 15th. to July 13th. 2013 . We can witness the kick off from the 35th. Bali Arts Festival this Saturday, June 15th. 2013.

Theme  of the Bali Arts Festival XXXV  2013
“Taksu :Brings about Creative Power and Identity

For Balinese “Taksu” is simply put as "the indescribable essence of Spirit.”energy, aura of spiritual charisma dwelling within,  infusing  the  person with  inner
beauty and charm. Taksu cannot be tested but when it is present, there is
no doubt as to its existence.  It cannot be quantified, but only qualified.  It fills the person
with confidence, charisma, and swagger.  It can be quite pleasurable, its
presence is warm but mysteriously powerful.
With  proper  instruction  and  training,  one  could  wield  Taksu  in  a  number  of
different  ways.

Its natural gifts of awareness and intuition combined with intensive healing support your innate ability to heal and rejuvenate.

This one  month-long festival will begin with a parade of performers from all districts in Bali and other Indonesian provinces, as well as by foreign participants, and is normally attended by the President of the Republic of Indonesia himself.  After the elaborate parade on June 15, a formal Grand Opening ceremony will be held that same evening at the Artha Candra Open Stage.
The festival will feature over 340 national and international cultural groups. Participating will be groups   from the U.S.A., India, Korea and several European nations.  There will be daily performances of dance and music as well as countless related cultural and commercial activities, during which literally the whole of Bali will be drawn to Denpasar to present their offerings of dance, music and beauty.
Ancient forms of classical Balinese dances will be resurrected during this year’s festival. Also featured are culinary exhibitions, competitions, fashion shows, flower shows and displays of traditional handicrafts.
Each year, the Bali Arts Festival features the enthralling classical dances of the island, such as the legong, gambuh, kecak, barong, baris, the mask dance and the like, on which contemporary choreographies have been created, while old village dances and activities are also revived. Over the years, the whole range of classical Balinese epics and folk stories – such as the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Sutasoma, Panji - have thus been turned into “colossal Dance dramas”  known as  Sendratari.

Through its 35 years history, the Bali Arts Festival has become an important and essential media to rediscover and preserve the unique and celebrated arts and culture of Bali, and at the same time increase its people’s welfare. Through this special annual event, it is hoped that the genuine wisdom and philosophy of the people of Bali will not only be preserved but will also grow and be spread to other parts of the world.

Preparation for the Festival begins in the villages, where the seka or cultural groups are selected and organized at the regency level, then they join with the others to perform the Arts Festival and thus display, to large audiences, the uniqueness of their village.
The Bali Arts Festival is the Denpasar cultural event of the year, perhaps the cultural event of Indonesia. The festival is thus a unique opportunity to see local village culture both “live” and at first hand. Tourists are cordially invited and welcomed.

“The opening will start with a parade of activities taking place at the monument of Bajra Sandhi Balinese struggle in Renon,” said head of the Bali Culture Department I Ketut Suastika, during a media conference at his office on Wednesday.

The PKB will be officially opened by President Susilo  Bambang Yudhoyono, commonly called President SBY,  on Saturday. For the last eight years, he has not missed the festival’s opening ceremony.

Before opening the PKB officially on Saturday night, President SBY Yudhoyono, accompanied by seven ministers, will witness a cultural parade of festival participants in Renon, Denpasar, in the afternoon. The Bali Arts Festival will run for a full month with approximately 330 artistic performances staged at Denpasar Cultural Park. Each day, four performances of art shows may be enjoyed free of charge.

A total of 15,000 artists will be participating in the 35th Bali Arts Festival (PKB), which is being held this year from June 15 to July 13 at Denpasar Cultural Park. The festival theme is" Taksu: Brings about Creative Power and Identity."

According to the Bali Daily news coverage about the preparation of Bali Arts Festival 2013, Suastika said, the organizer would place traditional arts as priority instead of modern ones.“Through the festival, we are eager to show the existence and identity of the spirit of Balinese culture,”

in addition to the arts and culture, the event will also feature a culinary festival, exhibition and competitions, fashion, flower arrangements and handicrafts. Visitors can enjoy traditional Balinese cuisine sold in the Arts Center complex, including the famed betutu (roasted chicken or duck cooked with Balinese spices), babi guling (roast pig), and lawar — a mix of vegetables, minced meat (pork, beef, chicken, or duck), chili, spices and grated coconut, and sometimes fresh animal blood. Suastika said that the culinary festival was aimed at promoting and preserving Balinese cuisine.

An exhibition of Balinese handicrafts will also give visitors the chance to go shopping. Hundreds of local artisans will participate in the festival.

The chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurants Association (PHRI) Bali branch, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati, said that the annual festival could be an alternative tourist attraction. However, he deplored that the festival promotion had yet to successfully attract more tourists.

“Most tourists coming to the Bali Arts Festival heard about the event when they had already arrived in Bali. They usually find out from the hotel staff. None of tourists come to Bali because of the festival,” Sukawati, popularly known as Cok Ace, said.

Cok Ace, who also serves as Bali Tourism Promotion Board (BPP) head, said that he would optimize the promotion of the Bali Arts Festival next year.

“BPPD had not been officially inaugurated, so we could not work for this year’s festival. But we are eager to do our best in promoting the 36th Bali Arts Festival next year,” he said.

Tribute to Sudono Salim -Liem Sioe Liong

Tribute to Sudono Salim

Sampai akhirnya, kakaknya datang menjemput.
Pesta pernikahannya, bahkan dirayakan selama 12 hari. Maklum, keluarga isterinya cukup terpandang.
Setelah menikah, Liem makin ulet bekerja dan berusaha. Usahanya berkembang. Tapi, ketika awal 1940-an, Jepang menjajah Indonesia, usahanya bangkrut. Ditambah lagi, dia mengalami kecelakaan. Mobil yang ditumpanginya masuk jurang. Seluruh temannya meninggal.
The Gang of Four, mendirikan CV Waringin Kentjana.
Sehingga kelompok ini sempat digelari Tycoon of Cement.
Bio TokohIndonesia.com | tsl © ENSIKONESIA - ENSIKLOPEDI TOKOH INDONESIA
