Three Co-Chairs to Lead the Summit: From its inception the Global Spa Summit has been modeled on the not-for-profit World Economic Forum, where leaders gather to solve problems and identify shared opportunities. Like the WEF, whose annual agenda is shaped by a panel of expert co-chairs, the GSS has just announced its three co-chairs for 2011, each of whom has served as Summit board members since its inception in 2007.
Anne McCall Wilson, Vice President Spas, Fairmont Raffles Hotels International, Canada: McCall Wilson, with 30 years of experience in the hotel and marketing arena, is the driving force behind the Spa Division for Fairmont Hotels International Inc. She has been instrumental in Fairmont's direction for the Willow Stream brand since its inception in 2001 (successfully launching 17 Willow Stream spas), and recently her responsibilities have expanded to include a new spa concept for Raffles Hotels & Resorts called “Raffles Spa,” and one for Swissotel called “pürovel spa &sport.”
Jeff Matthews, President & COO, Mandara Spas, Indonesia: A resident of (and expert on) Bali, Matthews has 20+ years hospitality industry experience with international chains like Four Seasons and Hilton Hotels throughout Australia, Canada, the Middle East, and Indonesia. He currently serves as president of one of the world's largest resort spa management companies, with 75+ spas worldwide.
Susie Ellis, President, SpaFinder Inc., US: Ellis leads the world's largest spa media and marketing company, and brings 30 years of industry experience. A respected analyst of the worldwide spa, wellness and beauty industries, she's recognized as a driving force behind the transformation of the spa industry from a narrower market sector to the mega-industry it has become today.

Experience COMO Shambhala Estate in Bali before 2011 GSS!
As you know the main Global Spa Summit sessions will take place in Bali on May 15-18, 2011 at the lovely Laguna Resort & Spa in Nusa Dua. As with past Summit’s, we are adding several “wow” options to the trip that will enhance the value of each delegate’s investment. That being said, I can’t think of anything more exciting, and educational, than the chance to experience one of the top destination spas in the world: the COMO Shambhala Estate in Ubud!
After a few months of planning with the COMO Shambhala team, we are thrilled to announce that they have arranged two pre-Summit all-inclusive wellness retreats exclusively for 2011 Summit delegates: a three-night wellness retreat at the famous COMO Shambhala Estate and a two-night mini yoga retreat at their sister property, Uma Ubud. Both will take place prior to the start of the Summit sessions in Nusa Dua. Further details on both retreats will be provided early January, however, I just wanted to plant the seed, for all registered, or soon-to-be registered delegates, to consider arriving in Bali a few days earlier to take advantage of this opportunity.
I have been to the estate twice now and all I can say is that it is absolutely unforgettable. The grounds, the accommodations, the food, the program, all are a “must-see,” “must-experience.” As you may know, it is truly one of our industry’s Meccas.
The COMO properties have so few guest rooms (less than 30 at each), therefore, the booking will be first come, first serve during a specific time in January. It is sure to be a sell-out; packages normally starting at $800 per night at the Estate will be available to GSS delegates at $358 for single occupancy and as low as $250 for double occupancy – and that includes meals and a spa treatment! The GSS board of directors is simply thrilled at COMO’s generosity in offering us such an amazing opportunity.
For now, I thought you might enjoy perusing their website to learn about the history of the Estate, the brand, and owner Christina Ong’s vision. The beautiful photography is striking, but only hints at this spectacular setting.

The Summit Is Born
At the beginning of the 2000's, a group of industry leaders decided to create and fund a conference modeled in part after the successful format of the not-for-profit World Economic Forum held each year in Davos, Switzerland, where leaders from all parts of the world gather to solve shared problems. Thus the Global Spa Summit was founded. The Global Spa Summit is held annually, beginning on the third Sunday in May. Visit the archive to learn more about the 2007, 2008, and 2009 summits.Format
A variety of interactive sessions are on the Summit agenda. They include panel-led discussions, general sessions, small group breakout sessions, and hosted dining conversations. Efforts are made to ensure that all attendees participate at whatever level they choose: observer, panelist, contributor, questioner, or table host. Standard business attire is recommended for all Summit sessions. For social events, delegates may dress in business casual. Interpreters will be made available for groups upon request in the online registration questionnaire.Delegate Demographics
