G4S and Medic One will run with Scott Thompson to Jakarta
G4S has joined a list of international companies as a major sponsor to support Scott Thompson for his Bali to Jakarta Charity Run, providing security and safety logistics for Mr. Thompson while he is running for 25 consecutive daysJakarta, 8 March 2012 – PT G4S Security Services Indonesia joined a list of international companies as a major sponsor to support Mr. Scott Thompson for his Bali to Jakarta Charity Run starting today to 1 April 2012. As part of G4S’s sponsorship arrangement they will provide the security and safety logistics for Mr. Thompson while he is running for 25 consecutive days.
Mr. Thompson will start the charity run from the Bali Domestic Airport on 8 March 2012 and plans to arrive in Jakarta on 1 April 2012. He will run for 25 days, covering a whopping 1,250 kilometers in support of underprivileged children. Mr. Thompson has raised over USD350,000 to date. The proceeds will go to two local charities, namely Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB) and Mary’s Cancer Kiddies (MCK).
G4S will be providing a GPS tracking device, escort vehicle with a driver and for Medic One (another major sponsor) to provide a Paramedic and a support Doctor for phone consultations which will be the immediate medical support.
"The support provided
by Medic One in terms of Paramedic support for Scott is obviously a vital
part in his quest to reach Jakarta. We all hope that the services of a
Paramedic will not be needed but, it goes a long way to ensure that Scott is
cared for in the appropriate manner , should he become injured in any way. It
is not exactly a smooth, pothole free route ." Christopher , the Security technical advisor of G4S, added
“The GPS tracking device will enable followers of this event and other interest groups to watch the progress of Mr. Thompson. The GPS device will be monitored in the G4S National Control Room for safety purposes,” said Mr. Jonathan Tedd, Director of Integrated Security Solutions, PT G4S Security Services Indonesia.
The Paramedic will ride in the G4S vehicle. The G4S vehicle will follow Mr. Thompson from behind while he is running to ensure his safety during this physically challenging and hazardous journey. The sponsorship is part of G4S’s corporate social responsibility efforts to help the local community.

Instead of opting for the easy option and flying back on Garuda, I will leave from the domestic terminal at Bali airport on foot on the 8th of March and run home to Jakarta.A Scottish man with a heart of gold will run as far as 1,250km in 25 days straight! for charity.
He will spend his one month leave to do a cross country for the sake of the less fortunate children in Indonesia.
“Some say trying to raise this money is just a drop in the ocean, but we’re going to create a little ripple and see where it takes us” – Scott Thompson
Harum Energy’s Director Scott Thompson is running 1,250 kilometres from Bali to Jakarta to raise money and awareness for both cancer foundation and a youth development charity. Last year, he ran the grueling 250 kilometres Sahara Race in seven days for Jakarta’s own Mary’s Cancer Kiddies (MCK), which helps disadvantaged families across the archipelago provide high-quality medical treatment for their kids.
This year, Scott will set off from Bali in March and run 50 kilometers a day for 25 days straight until he reaches Jakarta. With the help of corporate sponsors and donors, he is running with the aim to raise donation for MCK and Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa, a children’s foundation established in Jakarta in 1999, whose education and healthy lifestyle programs continue to impact nearly half a million young adults every year.

Fund Raising
Please inform me via email (info@runningbalitojakarta.com) if you would like to pledge and/or make a donation to either of these charities.
There are 2 wonderful charities that I will be running for and there are a couple of ways in which you can make a donation, of any shape or size. As the saying goes, "if you CAN'T help a 100 people, then help just ONE."
If it suits we can accept your pledges and then revert back to secure your kind support. If easier we will gladly accept cash donations and ensure your funds are provided to your chosen charity. Once again, thank you all so much for your support. Please inform me via email (info@runningbalitojakarta.com) if you would like to pledge and/or make a donation to either of these charities.
Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa Veronica Colondam established YCAB Foundation in 1999. YCAB is the abbreviation for the organisation's full name, Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa, which translates to 'Loving The Nation's Children Foundation'. YCAB strongly believes that every child should have an equal opportunity to live a life to the fullest with an overiding vision of 'Enabling Youth, Developing Independence'. |
The yayasan has grown and evolved into one of the most respected non-profit organisations in Indonesia with its focus on youth development through education, economic assistance and welfare creation for a better and sustainable future. The aim of YCAB is to help under-privileged youth to develop independence by becoming self-providing individuals in adult life.
YCAB states 'We HeLP youth, we HoLD them for some time while educating and giving them real HOpE in their lives'. Their 3 programmes are simply: HeLP, HoLD and HOpE. Please see website http://www.ycabfoundation.org/ for further details on the wonderful work they pioneer and support, programmes I hope we can support too.

The run will take me north for 3 days to catch the Bali Straits ferry at Gilimanuk for the crossing to Banyuwangi-Ketapang. From there, I will follow the road and traffic north and then turn west on my run across East Java, Central Java and on to West Java, before finally making my way into Jakarta.
The route will not change although the daily distances as shown on 'The Route' may vary, mostly to avoid sleeping in the back of the support car or having to pitch a tent at the side of the road.
