Paris Hilton Makes A White Hot Entrance At The BET Awards!
The 2014 BET Awards were held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California on June 29, 2014. Chris Rock was unveiled as the host for the upcoming BET Awards on May 14 during the network's 106 & Park music video countdown show. Beyoncé lead the nominations with 6, followed by Jay-Z with 5. Drake, Pharrell Williams and August Alsina were tied for 4. Beyoncé was the big winner of the night winning 3 Bet Awards, while August Alsina, Pharrell Williams, Drake, and Nicki Minaj with 2
The 2014 BET Awards' 9 Most Memorable Moments
Those are just the highlights;
there were plenty more moments that overshadowed the overhyped Jay Z and
Beyoncé performance, the show finale that turned out to be footage
taped at their "On the Run" tour. Below, see the nine moments that
sparked the most reaction:
1. Lionel Richie finally receives his Lifetime Achievement Award props.
Though Richie was humbled by the Lifetime Achievement honor, it
unfortunately included a major flub. When he took the stage to receive
the award, his last name was misspelled in the onscreen cyron as
"Ritchie." He didn't seem to notice, however: The former Commodores
singer was privileged to have three of the best contemporary singers –
John Legend, Ledisi, and Yolanda Adams – cover his songs during the
tribute. John offered piano renditions of "Still" and "Hello." Ledisi
serenaded Lionel with a fun, upbeat take on "Brick House," and gospel
siren Yolanda took everyone to church with her rendition of "Jesus Is
Love."
Accepting the award, Lionel
encouraged artists to follow their heart when making music. He admitted
that others had discouraged him from releasing some of his biggest hits.
"These are the songs they told me would ruin my career: 'Sail On,' 'All
Night Love,'" he said. But he forged ahead, thanks to the support of
Skip Miller, his former Vice President of Pop Promotions at Motown, with
whom he said he would share the award. "You can write any song you want
to, and I'll get it played and I was free," Richie said. "I could write
anything I wanted to write."
2. Nicki Minaj makes shocking admission during speech. During one of the longest acceptance speeches of the night, the five-time Best Female Hip Hop Artist winner revealed a recent near-death experience. Nicki Minaj said a fear of media coverage prevented her from calling 911. "I literally thought I was about to die," she said. "I was saying my prayers to die. I didn't even want to call the ambulance because I thought, 'Well, if I call the ambulance, it's gone be on TMZ…' It made me realize, I don't care anymore what anybody gotta say. Imma do me." After the experience, Minaj said she no longer succumbs to such pressures. Elsewhere in her speech, the "Pills N Potion" rapper made a comment about her songwriting that could be interpreted as a dis to fellow Best Female Hip Hop Artist nominee Iggy Azalea. "What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is that when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it," before trying to downplay speculation that the comment was a diss, saying, "No, no, no, shade."

3. Pharrell pulls a favor from an old friend. For the night's opening performance, Pharrell sang his new song "Come Get It Bae" featuring Miley Cyrus. Though the bad girl artist was not present to sing with him, Pharrell had an even better guest act on hand – fellow Virginia native Missy Elliott. Ironically, "Come Get It Bae"'s music sounds a lot like Missy's 2003 hit "Pass That Dutch," so the transitions between songs were seamless.
4. August Alsina receives major "Luv."
In May, August Alsina snapped at BET's 106 & Park co-host Keshia
Chanté when she asked him on-air about a rumored beef with Trey Songz.
But Sunday night, the Best New Artist and Viewers Choice winner made it
clear that he and Trey had settled any differences. When performing his
hit "I Luv This Sh*t," Trey made a surprise appearance, joining August
for the remix of the song. The moment peaked when Chris Brown appeared
unannounced to sing his verse on the remix.
5. Chris Brown provides night's best dancing.
During his first award show performance since being released from jail
earlier this month, Chris offered one of the night's most electrifying
stage shows. Though Chris appeared to be lip-synching, his freestyle
hip-hop dancing to his song "Loyal" was at its best. Travis Barker even
contributed a drum set to the end of Chris's show.
6. Usher's routine feels thrown together. Wearing his Davy Crockett-inspired fur hat, Usher plowed through a number of his biggest hits – "Nice and Slow," "Confessions," "Yeah," and "U Remind Me" – before getting to his new single "Good Kisser." It was odd seeing the superstar dancing to a medley without his usual elaborate stage production, but his footwork never disappoints.
7. John Legend helps Jhene Aiko go acoustic. As John began to wrap his ballad "You and I," he played Jhene's "The Worst." Jhene emerged, barefoot, and wearing a flowing, peach-colored gown. Jhene exuded sex appeal and confidence, as she owned the stage. Her chemistry with John was perfect. He even sang backing vocals before they wrapped.
8. The BET Awards time machine travels back to the 1990s. The show has developed a reputation for its surprise, old-school jam sessions, and this year's treat was pretty good. BET brought three early 1990s male R&B groups to the stage, and they all still sounded and looked great singing their signature ballads. Troop sang their classic "All I Do Is Think of You," Color Me Badd revisited their megahit "I Wanna Sex You Up," and Silk delivered "Freak Me."

9. Jay Z and Beyoncé close show on dull note with pre-taped footage.
Jay Z and Beyoncé, who are in the midst of their On the Run Tour,
didn't make it to Los Angeles for the BET Award – rather, their
performance of their song "Partition" was provided from their road show.
Jay Z added a raunchy rap verse to the opening of the song, and Beyoncé
played up her stripper moves.
Paris Hilton, the 33 year old reality TV star, looked stunning and cheerful at the BET (Black Entertainment Television) awards
