The Former President DR H Susilo bambang Yudhoyono has set an unprecendented example for the smooth and respectful transition of power to President Joko Widodo, his successor  and this event has been enthusiastically and joyfully witnessed by tens of millions of people in our home country as well as around the globe

Joko Widodo, the charismatic outsider who won Indonesia's presidency, made a call for national reconciliation and unity as he was sworn in.
Popularly known as Jokowi, the 53-year-old took the oath of office at a ceremony held at parliament in Jakarta.

Jokowi was sworn in as the 7th Indonesian president in a plenary session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) led by MPR Speaker Zulkifli Hasan on October 20th Monday. morning

The former Jakarta governor also greeted Prabowo Subianto, his former rival during the July 9 presidential election.
“[…] a man whom I respect, my friend Prabowo Subianto,” Jokowi said.
Prabowo stood on his feet up for a brief moment and saluted after Jokowi mentioned his name and the MPR broke into applause.

US Secretary of State John Kerry and former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda were also present.
He was then cheered through the streets as he made his way on a horse-drawn carriage to the state palace.
The former Jakarta governor is the first president not to have come from the military or political elite.

US Secretary of State John Kerry and Australia's Prime Minister Tony Abbott were among those who attended the inauguration.

Jokowi at a glance

Joko Widodo who was born on 21 June 1961 is the seventh and current President of Indonesia. He is universally called in Indonesia as Jokowi, an acronym derived from his full name. He was previously the Governor of Jakarta and, prior to that, the Mayor of Surakarta.
He has a beloved wife Iriana Widodo who now automatically becomes the First Lady

and  3 wonderful Gibran Rakabuming, Kahiyang Ayu,  Kaesang Pangarep
He was nominated by his party, the Indonesian Democratic Party – Struggle (PDI-P), to run in the 2012 Jakarta gubernatorial election with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (also known as Ahok) as his running mate. Jokowi was elected governor of Jakarta on 20 September 2012 after a second round runoff election in which he defeated the then incumbent governor Fauzi Bowo. Jokowi's win was widely seen as reflecting popular voter support for "new" or "clean" leaders rather than the "old" style of politics in Indonesia.
Jokowi's popularity rose sharply following his election to the high-profile position of governor of Jakarta in 2012. During 2013 and early 2014, he was increasingly seen as a potential PDI-P candidate for the Indonesian presidential election in 2014. His nomination was announced on 14 March 2014.
Jokowi was named as the President-elect of Indonesia on 22 July 2014 after being declared the winner of the presidential election winning more than 53% of the vote over his opponent Prabowo Subianto, who withdrew from the race before the count was completed disputing the outcome

Blusukan (Impromptu Visit)
Not so much a policy as a general approach, Jokowi has actively carried out the practice known as blusukan of regularly visiting quite poor areas across Jakarta. During these visits, he wears simple informal clothes and makes a point of spending time in markets or walking along narrow Jakarta lanes (gangs) to chat to people about problems like the price of food, housing difficulties, local flooding, and transport. Polling and media coverage suggests that Jokowi's hands-on style has proved very popular both in Jakarta and elsewhere across Indonesia

His awards and honors, accolades that have been conferred upon him  include the following:

2008: Jokowi was listed by Tempo as one of the 'Top 10 Indonesian Mayors of 2008'.

2011: He was awarded the Bintang Jasa Utama by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

2012: Jokowi received 3rd place of the 2012 World Mayor Prize for "transforming a crime-ridden city into a regional center for art and culture and an attractive city to tourists. He was listed as one of "The Leading Global Thinkers of 2013" in Foreign Policy.
In February 2013 he was nominated as the global mayor of the month by the The City Mayors Foundation based in London.

2014: Jokowi was listed by Fortune as one of the 'The World's 50 Greatest Leaders

2014: Jokowi on the cover of Time on October 18, 2014.

"Based on the Will of the People and Constitution"
Jakarta, 20 October 2014

Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

Salam Damai Sejahtera untuk kita semua,

Om Swastiastu,

Namo Buddhaya

We, Jokowi and JK (Jusuf Kalla), have just taken our oaths. That oath has a profoundly spiritual significance  that enforces our commitment to become a big nation. It is high time  we united our hearts and hands, and continue the heavy work load  to transform Indonesia into a sovereign country politically, self-sufficient economically, and with a strong character culturally.
I am truly confident that we can share this heavy task together with unity and through gotong royong (mutually helping one another hand in hand ) and hard work. Gotong royong serves a prerequisite to becoming a big nation. We will never become a big nation if we’re divided, we will never be truly free (“merdeka”) without hard work.

My administration will ensure that every person in the motherland feels the presence of their government. I am quite sure  that the nation will be stronger if state institutions (do their work according to the people’s mandate, as written in the Constitution.
To the fishermen, laborers, farmers, bakso (meatball) vendors, street vendors, drivers, academics, teachers, military, police, entrepreneurs, and professionals, I urge you to work hard, gotong royong, because this is the historic moment for us all to move together, to work, work, and work.
We want to be present among other independent nations with dignity, with pride. We want to build our own civilization, we want to become a creative nation, a nation that contributes nobility to the world’s civilization.
We have to work hard to restore Indonesia as a maritime country. The oceans, the seas, the bays, and the straits are the future of our civilization.
We have far too long turned our back on the seas, the oceans, the straits, and the bays. It's time to restore everything so that the slogan of "jalesveva jayamahe” (in the sea we will triumph),  used by our forefathers, will echo again.
Building up on a country cannot be done alone by its president and vice president, and the administration that I lead, but we need a collective strength. These next 5 years will be a momentum to show our freedom as a nation. Therefore, work, work, and work is the priority. I remain certain with hard work and gotong royong we will be able to protect Indonesia as a whole, improve welfare, and contribute to the world order in accordance with the principles of freedom, eternal peace, and social justice.
In the name of the people and the government of Indonesia, I thank and appreciate the attendance of fellow state leaders and special delegates. As the third biggest country in the world with the biggest Muslim population in the world, as an archipelagic nation and the biggest nation in Southeast Asia, Indonesia will keep on practicing a free and active foreign diplomacy, for the national interest, and contribute in creating a world order in accordance with the principles of freedom, eternal peace, and social justice.
In this historic moment, I personally and on behalf of Vice President Jusuf Kalla and on behalf of Indonesia, thank President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Professor Doctor Boediono who led the government over the past 5 years.
To conclude this speech, I implore you fellow countrymen, to remember one thing as said by the first president of the Republic of Indonesia, Bung Karno. That in order to build Indonesia into a big nation, prosperous and peaceful, we need the spirit of courage to face the waves.
As the captain of the ship as trusted by the people, I urge you all to get on the ship of the Republic of Indonesia and sail towards Indonesia Raya (Great Indonesia).
We will raise the mast, a strong one. We will face the tides in the ocean with our own power. And I will stand with the people and the Constitution. Merdeka !!!
May God bless our noble intention.
Wassalamualaikum warrahmatullahi wabarakatuh
God bless.
